About Us
The Old House, originally called Brook Cottage, dates back to around 1500 when it was occupied by a farm labourer.
A stunning property, even back in the early part of the century, in 1923 it was featured in the 'Ideal Home' magazine, when still a private residence. It became well known as a local tea and supper house just before the war and apparently Canadian soldiers were billeted here.
After the war, it was used as a small hotel by a theatrical couple who were hosts to well known stars of that era.
The Dormon family established the restaurant in 1979 and have since renovated and extended the building, whilst retaining the charm of this character property.
Diners are surrounded by a wealth of old beams, inglenook fireplaces, cosy alcoves and, above all, an efficient and friendly staff, providing the perfect atmosphere for leisurely, candle-lit dining. During the winter, one can enjoy the warmth of real log fires and in the summer, the comfort of air-conditioning and views across the lawn.
Every year since 1999 the restaurant has been recognised and awarded AA rosettes for the quality of its food.
Whatever the occasion, business or pleasure, the team at The Old House look forward to welcoming you.
